Born in Germany, Anja originally started her training in musical theatre in Vienna where she graduated in 2006. During her time there, she performed at various theatres and toured with MOKI, a childrens theatre company throughout Austria, Eastern Europe and Italy. Having never quite settled down in these genres though, she soon discovered her fascination for physical theatre and contemporary dance, which she both studied intensively with Danny Scott in Vienna and subsequently in Oxford, where she is based since 2009.
Anja has trained amongst others with David Glass, Amit Lahav and Hofesh Shechter. She further developed skills in capoeira and aerial dance (multiple apparatus), which are now an integral part to her practice.
As a performer, she worked with several companies both in the UK and internationally, including PointZero, FireFly, Paulette Mae and JJDC, and additionally works as a solo dance artist and freelance movement director. Anja is a mentored artist with the David Glass Ensemble and a trainer as part of the Ensemble’s learning strand, as well as associate artist to Gecko Theatre’s outreach programme with ‘The Wedding’. Anja further holds a Foundation +1 level qualification in teaching Aerial Dance.
Anja is much involved in the local dance & theatre scene and for many years sat on the Steering Committees for both Oxfordshire Theatre Makers (OTM) as Vice Chair, and Oxford Dance Forum (ODF).
Anja has founded JUSTICE IN MOTION in 2013, to combine her interest in Social Justice with her passion for the Arts, using her skills to make a difference in our culture and society.
